The short version

Dhwani Studio does not collect your data. There is no account. Your recordings stay on your phone, encrypted, and are never sent to us.

Everything you record, every bookmark and title you add, and every script you load into Read along stays on your device. We run no server that receives your audio, transcripts or scripts. We cannot listen to your recordings, we cannot recover them, and we could not hand them over to anyone, because we never receive them.

The app connects to the internet in exactly one case, and only when you choose it: downloading the speech model for on-device transcription. Section 6 explains this.

1. Who we are

Dhwani Studio is developed and published by Brihat Infotech ("we", "us", "our").

For the purposes of India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the EU/UK GDPR, we are the party responsible for this app. In practice our obligations are minimal, because we do not process any personal data about you. See Section 3.

2. No account, no sign-up, no identifiers

Dhwani Studio has no user accounts of any kind.

  • There is no login, no sign-up and no password.
  • We do not ask for your name, email address or phone number.
  • There is no OTP, SMS or email verification, and no social login.
  • We do not create, assign or read any advertising ID, device ID, installation ID or user ID.

You open the app and start recording.

3. What data we collect: none

We collect no personal data, no usage data and no diagnostic data.

The current version of Dhwani Studio contains:

  • No analytics SDK (no Google Analytics, Firebase Analytics, Mixpanel or similar).
  • No crash or performance reporting SDK (no Crashlytics, Sentry or similar).
  • No advertising SDK and no ads.
  • No attribution, marketing or tracking SDK of any kind.

We do not build a profile of you, we do not track you across apps or websites, and we do not sell, rent, share or disclose personal information, because we hold none.

4. What you create, and where it lives

When you use the app you may create:

  • Audio recordings
  • Recording details: title, date and time, length, file size, tags, bookmarks, the recording mode you chose, and whether you marked the recording private
  • Read along scripts: text you type or paste, or text extracted from a PDF you pick
  • Transcripts, if you use on-device transcription
  • Settings: language, theme, simple mode and whether app lock is on

Where each of these is kept:

  • Audio is encrypted with AES-256-GCM before it is written to the app's private storage. Unencrypted audio is never written there. The encryption key is created on your phone and held in the platform's secure key store (Android Keystore or the iOS Keychain). It never leaves your device and is never sent to us.
  • Recording details are stored in the app's private storage without encryption, so the library can be listed without decrypting every recording. They describe your recordings; they contain no audio.
  • Read along scripts are kept in memory while you use them and are not saved. The PDF you pick is read on your device; it is not copied into the app or uploaded anywhere.
  • Transcripts are created on your device and shown on screen. They are not saved. If you tap Copy, the text is placed on your device's clipboard.
  • Settings are stored in your device's standard app-preferences store.

None of this is sent to Brihat Infotech. The app contains no code that uploads it, and there is no cloud backup or sync.

5. Permissions the app asks for

  • Microphone: to record audio, only while you are recording. The app asks the first time you tap record, not at launch.
  • Notifications and foreground service: while a recording is running, Android shows an ongoing "Dhwani Studio is recording" notification. This keeps the recording alive when the screen is off and makes it visible to you.
  • Biometrics or device passcode: only if you turn on app lock. Your operating system performs the check. We never see or store your fingerprint, face data or passcode.
  • Files: only the PDF you pick yourself when importing a script. The app cannot browse your files.
  • Internet: used to download the transcription model (Section 6). The app also uses it to play your recordings. Decrypted audio is streamed to the phone's built-in player over a private connection that never leaves your device.

6. When the app uses the internet

The app works fully offline for recording, playback, editing, Read along and sharing.

It makes one kind of internet request, and only when you choose it:

Downloading the transcription model. On-device transcription needs a speech model of about 140 MB, which is not bundled with the app. When you choose to download it, the app fetches the model file from Hugging Face (huggingface.co), where the open-source whisper.cpp models are published. As with any download, Hugging Face receives standard connection information such as your IP address. No audio, transcript or other content is sent. After the download, transcription runs entirely on your phone.

7. Sharing and exporting

When you share a recording, the app creates a compressed, unencrypted copy in its temporary folder and hands it to the app you choose, such as WhatsApp or email. From that point the receiving app's own privacy policy applies. Temporary copies are removed on the next share and by the operating system's normal clean-up.

When you transcribe or clean up a recording, the app may briefly write a decrypted working copy to its private temporary folder, because the on-device engines need a real file. It deletes that copy as soon as the work finishes.

Sharing only ever happens when you ask for it.

8. Private recordings and app lock

You can mark a recording private to hide it from the normal library list. You can also turn on app lock so that your device's biometric or passcode check is required to open the app. Both are optional and off by default.

9. Device backups

If you back up your phone with your platform's own backup service, the encrypted recordings in the app's storage may be included, under that service's terms rather than ours. The encryption key is held in your device's secure key store, which is generally not transferable between devices, so recordings restored to a different phone may not be playable. If a recording matters to you, share or export a copy to somewhere you control.

10. Keeping and deleting your data

Your data stays on your device until you delete it.

  • Delete an individual recording from its menu in the Recordings list.
  • Uninstalling the app erases all recordings, details, settings and the downloaded transcription model from the app's storage.

Because we never receive your data, we cannot view, correct, export, restore or delete it for you, and we cannot recover a recording you have deleted.

11. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, erase or port your personal data, to withdraw consent, and to complain to a regulator. These include your rights under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, the EU/UK GDPR and California privacy law.

Because all your data is on your device and in your control, you can exercise these rights directly: view, edit, share or delete anything in the app. If you have a question or a request, write to support@brihatinfotech.com and we will respond within 30 days.

We do not sell or share personal information, and we do not use automated decision-making or profiling.

12. Children's privacy

Dhwani Studio is a general-purpose recording app for a general audience and is not directed at children.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, of any age, and we do not process children's data within the meaning of India's DPDP Act, 2023 or the US COPPA. The app has no account, no messaging or social feature, no ads and no tracking. If a child uses the app on a family device, anything they record stays on that device and can be deleted at any time. Parents or guardians with questions may contact support@brihatinfotech.com.

13. Security

  • Recordings are encrypted with AES-256-GCM, with the key held in the platform's secure key store.
  • All app data lives in the app's private sandbox, which other apps cannot read.
  • Nothing is stored on a server, so there is no server-side breach that could expose your recordings.

Please be aware that recording details (Section 4) are not encrypted, that anyone holding your unlocked phone can open the app unless app lock is on, and that a shared copy is no longer protected by our encryption. No system is perfectly secure, but we can promise we are not holding a copy of your data to lose.

14. No payments and no ads

Dhwani Studio is currently free. It contains no ads, no in-app purchases and no subscriptions, and we never see or handle payment details.

If this changes, we will update this policy before the change ships. Any purchase would be handled entirely by Google Play or the App Store under their own terms, and any advertising would be described here in full.

15. Changes to this policy

If we change how the app handles data, we will update this policy and its "Last updated" date. Material changes, in particular anything that would introduce data collection or transmission where none exists today, will be announced in the app or in the store release notes before or when they take effect.
